Concrete foundations & footings in Chattanooga, TN

The part of the job nobody sees and everything depends on. We build footings and foundations from your engineered plans — on bearing, on line, and inspected before the pour.

Every wall, slab, and roof above a structure rides on its footings. JMF Concrete Co. does foundation work for builders on new construction and for homeowners adding on — garages, additions, sunrooms, shops, and detached buildings. We read the plans, hold the schedule, and get it right the first time so the framers can start on a level, square, on-bearing foundation.

What we pour

  • Spread and strip footings
  • Monolithic (thickened-edge) slabs
  • Stem walls and short foundation walls
  • Grade beams
  • Pier, column, and pad footings
  • Garage and addition foundations
  • Retaining wall footings

How we build it

  • Start from the plan. Structural drawings and, where required, the soil report drive depth, width, and reinforcement.
  • Excavate to bearing. We dig to firm soil below frost depth, undercut soft or organic material, and verify the bearing before steel goes in.
  • Form to line and grade. Footings are set true so the walls above land where the framer expects them.
  • Place steel per drawings. Correct bar size, spacing, cover, and lap lengths — not eyeballed.
  • Inspection before the pour. We schedule and stand for the footing inspection so nothing gets covered up early.
  • Pour, consolidate, screed. Then strip, backfill, and coordinate any waterproofing or drainage board.

Working with builders

We coordinate with excavation, under-slab plumbing and electrical, and the inspector so the foundation phase doesn't stall the job. One of our commercial clients has run projects with us for nine years for exactly that reason — see the reviews.

Common questions

Do you build from our plans?
Yes — structural drawings and the geotech report where there is one.
How deep are footings here?
Below frost and on firm bearing, typically 12"+ below grade and deeper on stepped or hillside lots.
Who pulls the permit?
Usually the GC on builder jobs; we can pull the concrete permit on homeowner additions.
Do you also do foundation repair?
Yes — new footings under a settled section, underpinning, and crack repair. See concrete repair.
